Rebekah O'Rourke - PhD in Psychology

My approach

My work is grounded in accompanying people as they navigate roles, responsibility, and complexity in organisational life. I work with leaders, practitioners, and organisations who are willing to think carefully about what is happening in their systems, particularly where the work carries pressure, uncertainty, or strong emotional demand.

I did not arrive at this work through a single professional pathway. I grew up on a sheep and grain station in regional Australia and began working early, combining hospitality work with university study. My early career moved across sectors, including construction and international development, before I began working in organisational development with World Vision in Australia, East Africa, and Washington D.C. During this time, I completed an applied Masters degree and began to orient my work toward systems and organisational life.

After returning to Australia, I joined Telstra, where I led large-scale transformation work focused on people and performance across a significant leadership population. Alongside this, I undertook further study in France, participating in an experiential programme in human dynamics that deeply shaped how I understand learning, relationship, and organisational life.

I later founded and led The Global Leadership Practice, through which I designed and convened public programmes that enabled people to experience organisational and group dynamics in real time. This period involved extensive international work, ongoing postgraduate study, and the development of consulting teams working across sectors. I also co-created a Masters programme in Leadership and Organisational Analysis with the Grubb Institute in the UK.

In 2018, I closed The Global Leadership Practice, returned to independent work, and undertook a PhD in Psychology. This marked a shift from building an organisation to deepening my own practice, research, and thinking.

My current work brings together organisational consulting, professional supervision, and academic engagement. I am an Academic Fellow of the Roffey Park Institute in the UK, contributing to the International Masters in People and Organisation Development, and an Academic Associate with the Professional Supervision programme at the University of Divinity in Australia.

Current Interests

My current interests focus on beliefs at work. How they are formed, held, and enacted within roles, teams, and organisations. I am particularly interested in how beliefs shape decision-making, behaviour, and relationship, often operating beneath awareness yet strongly influencing organisational life.

This includes ongoing inquiry into embodied experience, professional supervision, systemic constellations, and astrology as a symbolic and temporal lens for understanding pattern, inheritance, and meaning within individual and collective life. My attention remains on how experience is shaped by organisational, cultural, historical, and relational contexts.
